Joyce A. Peters
Joyce A. Peters, age 90, of Quincy, IL, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on October 10, 1934, in Quincy, to Vern and Rosalia (Rakers) Zimmerman. Joyce married Theodore “Ted” Peters on April 11, 1964, in St. John Catholic Church, and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1995.
Joyce was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She began her career at 17 years old at the Illinois Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 14 years. She and Ted owned and operated the Silver Dollar Tavern at 10th and Adams from 1964 to 1988. Joyce was employed at St. Mary Hospital in the telecommunications department from 1988 to 1993 and continued at Blessing Hospital until her retirement in 2013.
Joyce’s life was centered around her faith and her family. She was a devout parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. There, she was a member of the Adult Funeral Choir, Bell Choir, Ministry of Praises, Catholic Women’s Council, Sacred Heart League, and Prayer Chain. Joyce was also a deeply devoted mother and grandmother to many. She especially enjoyed their annual summer trips to the Lake of the Ozarks, a tradition that began when her children were young and continued for many years as her family grew. Joyce recently celebrated her 90th birthday in the loving company of family and friends. She touched many people’s hearts with her kindness and love. Her compassion and character will leave a lasting impression on all.
Survivors include Joyce’s children: Annette Scholfield of Quincy, Stuart (Kris) Peters of Quincy, Marsha (Sam) Knox of Bloomington, IL and Brad (Kim) Peters of Chandler, AZ.
Grandchildren: Brett Scholfield of New York, NY, Kevin Scholfield of Phoenix, AZ, Brooks Scholfield of St. Louis, MO, Breanna (Melynda) Scholfield of Gilbert, AZ, Evan, Sarah, and Olivia Peters all of Quincy, Adam, Emily, and Andy Knox all of Bloomington, IL, and Abbey and Blaine Peters both of Chandler, AZ.
Step-grandchildren: Kara (C.J.) Koyer of Quincy; step-great-grandchildren Kayden, Kolton, and Keagan Koyer all of Quincy; Rhett, Van, and Beck Stock all of Gilbert, AZ.
Brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Rosalia Zimmerman; husband Ted Peters; brothers, Vern, Jr. and Jerry Zimmerman; sister Janet Kroeger; and Rory Holder, who was like a son-in-law to her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Tom Meyer. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Sacred Heart League

Joyce was always a smiling face for St. Mary’s School children when she helped them at the library. Prayers for her family.
I worked with Joyce in the switchboard at St. Mary Hospital. Joyce was the sweetest. Loved seeing her at the St. Mary luncheons each year. My prayers for her family.

Annette,Brad, Marsha and Stuart, we are so sorry to hear of your mothers passing, she was always so happy and kind when we were able to visit with her, we are sorry we will not be in town for the service and will keep your family in our prayers.
