Joyce A. “Joy” Vandenboom

Joyce A. “Joy” Vandenboom age 81, of Quincy died on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in Blessing Hospital. Joy was born March 4, 1941 in Quincy, a daughter of George and Ruth (Clark) Newbanks.

She met the love her life, Dale E. Vandenboom when they were teenagers, and they married on October 3, 1959, in St. Francis Catholic Church. Dale preceded her in death on December 3, 2021.

A memorable trip that Joy and Dale took together was a monthlong trip to Europe, where they were blessed by the Pope at the Vatican.
Joy was a graduate of John Wood Community College and Quincy College. She worked for a short time as the Director of Chaddock, but primarily, she was a top-notch homemaker.

She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Joy was a Girl Scout leader for many years, an activity that also allowed her extra time with her daughter Susan. She, like her husband Dale loved to tutor their daughters and grandchildren, and Joy’s specialty was English, Arts and Crafts. She was a wonderful pianist and loved to sing.

Survivors include her two daughters, Susan Vandenboom of Quincy, and Lori Vandenboom.
Three grandchildren, Katelynn Vandenboom of Quincy; Dustin Buss of Georgia and Miley Buss of North Carolina. A great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Joy Vandenboom of Quincy. Nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Arthur R. and Agnes C. (Timpe) Vandenboom; a grandson, Dillon Buss and a great-granddaughter, Daphne Buss; three brothers, George, Ralph and Paul Newbanks and one sister, Jacqueline Harker.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Duker and Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Rev. Steven Arisman. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Duker Haugh Funeral Home.     Susan and Lori,. We were neighbors when we were growing up. I have fond memories of your family. I didn’t know that your Dad had passed. You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of him and now of your Mom. I too have lost both my parents. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
