Joseph R. “Joe” Genenbacher

Joseph Robert Genenbacher, age 58, of Quincy, died on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, shortly after a diagnosis of anaplastic thyroid cancer. Joe was born on November 1, 1965 in Quincy, a son of Robert and Antoinette “Dolly” (Mast) Genenbacher. On April 24, 1993 Joe married his wife Kathy at St. Peter’s Church in Quincy.

Joe is best remembered as he lived, through hard work and dedication to those he loved. Throughout his life he was loved by so many. To those who knew him at all, Joe is best described as a truly selfless, faith-filled man who would go to any length to provide the best life for his family. It is in this aspect of life Joe undoubtedly triumphed. Through his many stages of life, Joe always over-delivered in providing love and security to his family.

Joe made a career and excelled as the Operations, Support, and Facilities Manager for Quincy Recycle and Quincy Farm Products. He was known as a tireless helping hand, a true mentor and the World’s Most Loving Grandpa to Beau. If you thought Joe was a loving man years ago, it was not until Beau entered the world that he found a never-ending well of love. Stories of Joe’s life all revolve around his capacity to love, his generosity in helping others and his very distinctive laugh that so often followed him.

In the years ahead, Joe’s memory will live on through his legacy: the family farm in Lewis County, Missouri. A true labor of love and testament to his priorities and craftsmanship skills, the family farm and cabin will serve as a gathering place for his family and loved ones, a living reminder of a good man who left us all too soon.

In addition to his wife Kathy, survivors include his children, Olivia Marx and her husband Brad; Brady Genenbacher and his wife Kari Ann; a grandson Beau Genenbacher. Brothers and sisters, Judy Yeast, Danny (Nancy) Genenbacher, Ronnie (Rita) Genenbacher, Theresa (Dave) Bockhold, Mike (Kristine Doane) Genenbacher, and Ted (Sarah) Genenbacher. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. We would be remiss to not mention Jim and Elaine Genenbacher and their children, who were constant sources of love and care to Joe and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Mary Venvertloh and her husband Leroy; a brother-in-law Steve Yeast; and a “nephew” Blake Genenbacher.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at The Crossing at 48th and Maine. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Crossing. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or The Crossing. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

I loved Joe! He was such a loving, caring man! I just ran into him a couple of weeks ago at The Crossing and he lit up when he saw my granddaughters and spoke of his grandson!
