Joseph Bernard Hultz
Joseph Bernard Hultz age 85, formerly of Quincy died on Thursday, September 9, 2021 in Golden Good Shephard Home. Joe was born February 1, 1936 in Quincy, a son of Ervin and Emma (Deters) Hultz. He first married Mary Phyllis Caldwell and together they had their son Joseph Michael Hultz. Joe married Ruth M. (Lohman) Whelan on October 14, 1981, she preceded him in death on July 11, 2004.
Joe worked as a molder at Gardner Denver and Central Pattern in Quincy. He continued his work at Coleman’s in Monroe City, MO where he and Ruth lived for 15 years. Joe served his country in the U.S. Army.
His favorite pastimes were camping, boating, and golfing, and these activities were enjoyed with Ruth and their close friends, Betty Reddick and the late Ralph Reddick. Joe was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinal Baseball and Quincy Blue Devil Basketball.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Michael Hultz of Kansas City, MO; a brother, Michael Hultz of Lewistown, MO; a step-daughter-in-law, Kathy Whelan of Quincy; Grandchildren, Bethany (Thomas) Cordes of St. Louis, MO; Dena (Todd) Steinkamp of Mendon, IL; Matt (Kearisten) of Blue Grass, IA; Austin and Nathan Whelan of the Quad Cities; Great Grandchildren including, Henry, Maggie and Charlie Cordes; Alyssa and Zach Steinkamp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruth, three stepchildren, Carol Creely, Michael and Todd Whelan; a grandson Brian Nuessen; a sister, Rosemary Hultz; twin brothers in infancy, and a sister-in-law Nancy Hultz.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery by Rev. Tom Donovan.
There is no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the graveside service.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
