John William ‘Bill’ Adam, 78, of Quincy, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 in the Halifax Medical Center in Port Orange, Fla. He was born May 6, 1943 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Hannibal, Mo., the son of John Paul and Cecilia (Yager) Adam. Bill received an associate’s degree from Gem City Business College in January 1964. He married Patty (Schwartz) Bordewick on February 17, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Church. She survives. Bill was the office manager at Quincy Soybean Company for 30 years. He later worked in real estate, as an auditor at Amcon, and a bus driver for the Quincy School District. He retired in 2010.

Bill and Patty are members of Blessed Sacrament Parish. He was a Men’s Group participant and eucharistic minister at Blessed Sacrament. He volunteered many hours for Birthright of Quincy, helping staff Birthright events and providing direct assistance to clients. He was named that organization’s volunteer of the year in 2016.

Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent many years as a longtime volunteer youth sports coach, and he served as commissioner of a golfing group that routinely met on Tuesdays at local courses. He enjoyed attending activities involving his children and grandchildren, ranging from American Legion baseball summer trips throughout the Midwest more than 35 years ago to concerts, musicals and dance recitals for his grandchildren or simply attending T-Ball and Little League games this past summer. He will be remembered for organizing Jart-O-Mania, an annual lawn jarts tournament, for friends and family for more than 20 years. He loved taking his dogs, Katie and Tucker, on walks and showing them off to neighbors when he and Patty traveled to Florida each winter to live at Pioneer Creek RV Resort in Bowling Green, Fla.

In addition to his wife, Patty, Bill is also survived by his children: David Adam of Quincy; Joel Adam and wife Amy of Foristell, Mo.; Stephanie “Stacey” Adam Arnold of Quincy; Matt Jackson and wife Liz of Quincy; Mark Bordewick and wife Jennifer of Quincy; Joe Bordewick and wife Amber of Quincy; Megan (Bordewick) Barragree and husband Dennis of Quincy; Christina (Bordewick) Wilson of Quincy; Zach Bordewick of Quincy; and Nathan Bordewick of Quincy.

HIS SIBLINGS: Linda (Adam) Ritter and husband Jack of Affton, Mo., and Dan Adam and wife Jan of Monroe City, Mo.

Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Donna (Whitecotton) Adam, his second wife Nancy (Augspurger) Adam, and brothers Jim Adam and Donald Adam in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Sept. 13, 2021 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church. Interment will be in St. Stephen Cemetery near Monroe City, Mo. at 2 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Birthright of Quincy or to the Blessed Sacrament Men’s Group. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
