John Spencer ‘Jack’ Rainbolt, age 82, of 4209 Country Meadows Lane, Quincy, died on Saturday, August 11, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 17, 1936 in Williamstown, MO the son of Ora Dale ‘Fritz’ and Mary Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Greer) Rainbolt. John was a graduate of High School in Williamstown, MO. He married Anna Mae Nichols on April 7, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Canton, MO. She survives.

John was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He served in the United States Naval Reserve.

John was the son of a farmer and blacksmith. He started first grade at a one room school named Allen near Derrahs, MO. He loved to tell tales of riding his old mare three miles to school. He then went to the Catholic School at St. Patrick, MO. His high school years were spent at Williamstown High School and he graduated from there.

He and the love of his life, Anna, met at a square dance in December at Derrahs, Mo which started their lifetime love for dancing. John proposed to Anna at a high school Valentine’s dance and they were married in April. They started married life on the farm and later move to Canton. They moved to New Mexico where he was a heavy equipment operator on the Navajo Dam near Aztec, NM. After the completion of that Dam, they moved to Tucumcari NM where he worked on the UTE Dam. Other jobs included supervisor in the Caterpillar Department at Electric Wheel, the Blue Coach Foods and finally Schlegel in Keokuk. After retirement from Schlegel, he operated his own business cleaning beer tap and wine lines for various bars in Quincy and the surrounding area.

John had a talent for building things, among them a deck complete with roof and sunroom below. On the next level off the deck, he built a gazebo and a small decorative pond. This talent included smaller things such as building elaborate bird feeders. He was also a pretty good mechanic. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.

John’s sons, Eric, Rodney and Colby were the joy of is life. He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews dearly. Anyone who knew John had a story to tell about him. The annual Rainbolt Reunion hosted at his home, this will be the 13th year, was highly anticipated by him.

The family wishes to thank Hospice, the nurses and staff of Blessing Hospital and especially Dr. Crystal Perry and Dr. Venu Reddy for the excellent care that he received throughout his illness and many hospital stays.

Our wonderful memories of John and our faith will help to carry us through the difficult days ahead.

THREE SONS: Eric John (Martha) Rainbolt of Waynesville, MO; Rodney Blaine (Martha Sorrill) Rainbolt of Quincy and Colby Duane (Megan) Rainbolt also of Quincy.
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Shawn (Jael) Rainbolt, Craig Rainbolt, Jacob (Amy) Rainbolt; Willow Rainbolt and Spencer Rainbolt.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Mercayah Rainbolt, Memphis Rainbolt and Elijah Rainbolt with an additional great-grandchild expected in October.
Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives including a special member of the family: Edith Johnson also survive.

John was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Hillis Dale Rainbolt and Sisters: Billie Lois Curry and Betty Ann McLeod.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
