John R. Busen

John R. Busen age 63, of Quincy, died on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO, with his wife and daughters at his side. John was born August 6, 1948 in Quincy, a son of Richard and Norma (Elliott) Busen. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda Shoopman, on May 31, 1969 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Mt. Sterling, IL and she survives.

John was a Registered Architect in Illinois, Missouri and Iowa and he had worked at Poepping, Stone, Bach and Associates since 1986. He previously had worked in Hannibal at Crane and Fleming, and he began his career with Hafner, Dierkes and Flachs Architects of Quincy.

He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. John was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

John was a member of the H.O.G. motorcycle club of Quincy, Quincy Boat Club, Breakfast Optimists, and the Single Action Shooting Society, where his nickname was “Siesta.”
John was an avid hunter, a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He treasured the many family vacations taken in Siesta Key, FL. His two grandchildren were his pride and joy, and they loved every minute spent playing with their “Papa.” In the years preceding his illness, he cherished the time that he and his wife could hit the open road with friends on his Harley-Davidson, renewing old friendships and forming new ones with the people they met along the way.

In addition to his wife Linda, survivors include his mother, Norma Busen of Quincy; two daughters, Stacy Larson and her husband Scott of Quincy; Sarah Busen of Chicago, IL; a sister, Carol Manning and her husband Mike of Lebanon, TN; and a brother, David Busen and his wife Rose Marie of Quincy; Two grandchildren, Colin and Avery Larson of Quincy; a brother-in-law, David Shoopman of Camp Point, IL and nieces and nephews also survive.

John was preceded in death by his father, Richard.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church by Monsignor Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Detail. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials have been suggested to the Siteman Cancer Center Bone Marrow Transplant Division at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, and the Blessed Sacrament Parish of Quincy.

    Linda and family–It has many years since i have seen John but we have been exchanging e-mails, but i will always remember John best when we were in school–and motorcycle trips to the Ozarks with BO,what a bunch of crazy carefree kids. You are in my prayers,just remember he is now in a better place
