John M. Funke

John M. Funke age 79, of Quincy died on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Blessing Hospital. John was born in Quincy on January 20, 1939 a son of Virgil and Alice (Hand) Funke. He married Vivian O. Heberle in Hermann, MO in 1963, and she survives.

John retired after a 42-year working career. He was a co-owner of Richards Electric Motor Company where he worked in sales and service for the company. John was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School and received his Associates Degree in Industrial Electronics from Rankin Technical School in St. Louis.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1962-1964.

John was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. His other memberships included Rotary Club, Toastmasters, the Q.U. Mart Heinen Club where he was a board member and past-president and he was a member of the QND Board of the Athletic Booster Club. John loved golfing, gardening and traveling with his family and friends. He greatly enjoyed morning coffee with “the guys”.

In addition to his wife, survivors also include: his children, a son, Keith Funke and a daughter, Diane Giesing and her husband Brian all of Quincy. Two grandchildren, Riley and Payton Giesing of Quincy; a sister Janet Damon and her husband Gary and a brother Norman Funke and his wife Sandy all of Quincy. Nieces and nephews also survive.

A memorial mass will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. Private inurnment is planned. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Memorials are suggested to the Q.U. Mart Heinen Scholarship Fund or to Quincy Notre Dame High School.
