John K. “Jim” Feld, Sr.
John K. “Jim” Feld, Sr. age 86, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, formerly of 605 So. 18th St., Quincy, died on Thursday, September 4, 2014 in the home. He was born on June 9, 1928 in Quincy, a son of John D. & Frances (Hurley) Feld. He married Sallie Jo Summers on June 20, 1953 in New London, MO. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2000.
Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the City of Quincy as a firefighter at the Central Fire Station. He retired June 28, 1986 after serving over 28 years.
He was a past member of the Quincy Gun Club, a lifetime member of North Side Boat Club, past member of Twin Oaks Club and Quincy Elks Lodge #100. He was a founding member of the Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corp.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman He especially loved fishing, gardening and hunting. He had a great passion for his rose garden. Jim was a lifelong Cubs Fan.
Jim’s children would like to thank the staff at the Illinois Veteran’s Home Markword 2 for all the loving care he received while he was a resident there.

Several loving nieces and nephews also survive along with three devoted GrandDogs.
In addition to his wife, Sallie, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Lance Hoelscher. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quincy Volunteer Emergency Corp. www.dukerandhaugh.com
To all the family please be assured of my prayers and the prayers of all the Franciscan friars and the firefighters of Quincy Illinois. A candle will burn in the back of the Q.U. Chapel at the shrine of Saint Florian patron saint of firefighters. This candle will burn for eight days in remembrance of your father grandfather and great-grandfather. Prayers and hugs to Jim ‘ s family during this difficult time. He was such a wonderful guy, and like a second father to me. Our son is even named after him. I ‘m sure it was quite a reunion when he saw his beloved Sallie Jo!
