John ‘Jack’ Terford

John Francis ‘Jack’ Terford, age 91, of Quincy, died on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the home. He was born on June 22, 1931 in Quincy the son of George and Selma (Recker) Terford. He was a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame and attended Gem City Business College. He married Rita Wensing on May 5, 1962. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2012. Jack was a timekeeper and supervisor at Gardner Denver retiring in 1993 after 43 years of service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Jack was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and helped with their chili suppers. After his retirement he volunteered for the funeral dinners and participated in scripture study and the adoration chapel. Jack was also a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan. Jack enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and westerns with John Wayne. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and loved being outside doing yard work or just enjoying the outdoor weather.

The family would like to thank Dr. Louis Kim and Jack’s caregiver Lois for all of the wonderful care that they provided for dad the last couple of years.

Jack is survived by:
CHILDREN: Joseph Terford of Quincy; Christine Scherr of St. Louis, MO and Elizabeth ‘Beth’ McCarthy (Joseph) of O’Fallon, MO.
GRANDCHILDREN: Kelly Mazaheri (Doni), Maryellen McCarthy, Allison McCarthy (Mark Marlott) and John Scherr.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law: Stephen Scherr, and a brother: Charles Terford along with his wife Eleanor.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 9:30 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Illinois National Guard Honor Detail and the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Jude Childrens Hospital or to EWTN. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
