John Herman Waterkotte

John Herman Waterkotte age 77, of 1104 Cherry, Quincy died on Sunday, December 31, 2015 in St. Vincent Home.John was born July 17, 1938 in Quincy, a son of Robert and Carlene (Welchert) Waterkotte

John had worked at Brower Manufacturing Co. for 25 years and Kirlin’s Inc. for 17 years, prior to his retirement in 2002.

He had attended grade school at the former St. John School and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960-1966.
John was a long-time member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Presently, he was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.

He was a founding member of the Bogey Busters Golf League and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
John enjoyed spending time at the Mark Twain Gambling Boat. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and also a fan of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame University. He tutored in the John Wood Community College Literacy program. He loved growing and canning tomatoes and making his own ketchup. He also was good at baking pies, his lemon meringue was a favorite.

Surviving relatives include:
Two Brothers: his twin brother, Jerry Waterkotte ; and Jim Waterkotte; a sister: Janet Waterkotte all of Quincy;
Two Nephews: Erik (Emmy) Waterkotte of Cincinnati OH, Todd (Joyce) Waterkotte of Quincy,
Two Nieces: Amy Waterkotte of Quincy and Katie (Antonio) Vitale of Beardstown, IL;
A Great nephew: TJ Waterkotte of Cincinnati; Great Nieces: Anna Waterkotte of Cincinnati, Hayley Cox of Quincy, Isabella and Gabriella Vitale of Beardstown

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Sharon Waterkotte.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, by the Monsignor Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials to: Blessed Sacrament School, the Sharon Waterkotte Scholarship Fund at QND, the Francis Waterkotte Scholarship at Blessing Rieman School of Nursing.

    Great Guy and fun golf partner. Tony recent surgery kept us from coming by but prayers and sympathy for all. Literally some of Tony’s most memorable golf rounds were with John. He will be missed.

    Jerry and family, I was so sorry to learn of John’s passing. I knew John from the pool at the university. And what a swimmer. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this time of Great Loss. God Bless!
