John Henry Hardy

John Henry Hardy, age 86, of 4901 Lake Ridge Drive, formerly of 1968 E. 1650th, Coatsburg, IL, died on Saturday, November 5, 2011 in his home. He was born on September 12, 1925 in Quincy, Illinois , the son of John L. & Gertie M. (Wartick) Hardy. He married Vivian L. Starman in St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Mendon, IL on November 10, 1951. She survives.

John was a member of the Church of St. Peter. He graduated from LaPrarie High School. John then joined the US Army, Stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina with the 82nd Airborne Division. He served in the paratroopers for 2 years seeing duty overseas. He was discharged on May 13, 1947. He remained in North Carolina for a year returning to Loraine to his parents home. John was employed at the International Shoe Factory in Quincy. He also worked at Churchill Trucking Company, Gardner-Denver, Moormans Manufacturing, St. Mary’s Hospital and Blessing Hospital in the maintenance department retiring in 1985. John was a former member of the Coatsburg-Paloma Lions Club and the Moose. He was a member of the American Legion Post 823 in Mendon and the Eagles in Quincy.

In addition to his wife Vivian, John is also survived by: one sister: Lillie Wilcox and her husband Bill of Loraine, 6 nieces, 4 nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Two brothers: Orlo Hardy along with his wife Mildred and Adrin Hardy along with his wife Iva, and a sister: Alvena Clark along with her husband Warren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in the Church of St. Peter by Msgr. Leo Enlow. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Coatsburg-Paloma Lions, the Church of St. Peter or Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
