John Francis LeRoy “Sonny” Carnes

John Francis LeRoy “Sonny” Carnes, age 67, of Sunset Home, died on Saturday, September 29, 2018 in the Home. He was born on February 13, 1951 in Quincy the son of John and Mary Louise (Young) Carnes. He first married Mary Jane Gooding and he later married Loretta Lynn Clark.

John graduated from Quincy High School. He first worked at Electric Wheel, Can Am which later became Titan Wheel. He worked on the rim-line.

John enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also collected clocks. He was a hard-worker who loved his family and was always willing to help those who needed him.

He is survived by the children he had with his wife Mary Jane: John LeRoy (Donna) Carnes of NV, Mary Louise Martin of Quincy, Donna (Fred) Ensminger of Bowen, Crystal (Harry) Riley of Bowen, Bobbie Buss (Ryan Young) of Quincy; and his daughters that he had with his wife Loretta Lynn: Shyann (Marshall) Steffan, and Tori (Steven) Hinojosa of Carthage.
Two sisters: Peggy (Don) Mayfield and Jean (Dean) Steinkamp, both of Quincy and many other siblings also survive.
Fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
Nieces and nephews also survive.

John was preceded in death by his parent, and siblings, John W. Carnes, Sharon Carnes and Donna Dunbar.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Dixie Croxton. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12 o’clock noon until the time of services at 1:00. Memorials are suggested to Fishers of Men. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

    I got the honor to take care of john at sunset he was a resident with the kindest heart and made sure the other residents got care before him as he put it he is a proper gentle man and the lady’s should go before him rest in peace john and I hope you catch that 65 pound catfish in heaven and show the others how its done
