John E. Ohnemus
John Edmund Ohnemus, age 80, of Quincy, died on Saturday, July 15, 2023 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on February 13, 1943 in Quincy, the son of Francis and Hazel (Schwartz) Ohnemus. John married Stephanie Happekotte on May 2, 1970 in Quincy University Chapel.
John retired from the City of Quincy. Prior to that he worked for Motorola and Sheller Globe in Quincy and EPC in Mora, MN.
He was member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Quincy Breakfast Optimist. As an avid golfer, he volunteered at Little People’s Golf, and was a strong supporter of QND and all local youth programs.
John is survived by his wife, Stephanie, his children: Christine (Bill) Nosbush, Stephen Ohnemus, Mary Elizabeth Ohnemus, Laura Ohnemus, Michael (Tara) Ohnemus and Martin (Allison) Ohnemus; grandchildren: Anthony (Lauren) Nosbush, Elizabeth (Josh) Hainline, Emily (Geoff) Schuette, Matthew Nosbush, Johnathan Ohnemus, Lucas Ohnemus, Isabella Ohnemus, Austin Ohnemus, Olivia Ohnemus and Adeline Ohnemus; and six great grandchildren and other surviving relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Frank Ohnemus and James Ohnemus and sister Julia Moore, and a grandson, Christopher Nosbush.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rev. Steven Arisman officiating. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. John was a very kind man. I had gotten to know him when he started coming into the Gene Grawe Fund office. He was a very faithful supporter. I enjoyed our conversations. And he was always working for the good of the young people. I will miss him dearly coming in & our visits. May God bless you Stephanie & all the Ohnemus family. Stephanie and family, I’m so sorry to hear of Johns passing. I have a lot of fond memories of John from our school years and our periodic reunions. May he always be in best memories.
