John A. “Jack” Bower age 82, of Quincy died on Monday, January 8, 2018 in Blessing Hospital.
Jack was born September 3, 1935 in Quincy, a son of Henry B. & Florence E. Wisman Bower. He married Donna L. Belker on April 20, 1963 in Quincy’s St. John the Baptist Church. Donna preceded him in death on January 4, 2018.
Jack was the accounting manager at Gardner-Denver in Pryor, OK; and comptroller and treasurer for Sun-Tech Inc. in Pryor, Talladega, AL and Yuma, AZ. He retired in 2004 from the Accounting Department at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. He had attended St. Francis Grade School; and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and Quincy College.
Jack served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1954-1956. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He was a lifelong member of the K of C, a member of the Elks for 35 years, and a member of the Western Catholic Union.
Jack enjoyed building; remodeling and refurbishing and doing wood-working projects. He loved being outdoors, doing yard work; landscaping; gardening; and tending to his flowers and shrubs. He took great pleasure in trout fishing trips to Bennett Springs for over 40 years.
Survivors include their children; Michael J. Bower of Chouteau, OK; William J. Bower of Durant, OK; and Jeffrey A. (Janah) Bower of St. Joseph, MO; two grandchildren, Kayla Bower and Dylan J. Bower of Denison, TX. Two brothers, James (Norma) Bower and Paul Bower all of Quincy; Frances (Larry) Scheufele of Springfield, IL; Nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Donna.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, by Monsignor Michael Kuse. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Visitation will be Sunday at St. Francis Church from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the Great River Honor Flight.
