Joan M. Dittmer 79 of Pontiac, IL died Friday December 1, 2023 at 1:22am at Goldwater Care in Pontiac.

Joan was born on October 16, 1944 in Quincy, IL a daughter of Giles and Florence (Schreacke) Varner. She married John E. Dittmer on September 7, 1963 in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1996. Survivors include: three sons: John (Deanna) Dittmer of Cullom, IL, Jim (Lori) Dittmer of Pontiac, IL and Joe (Martha) Dittmer of rural Pontiac, IL; ten grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Kay Cosgrove of Lincoln, NE, Arlene Creech of Republic, MO; one brother: Wayne Varner of Fairbury, IL. Joan was preceded in death by one grandson: Dustin Bauer, one brother: Don Varner and one sister: Barb Ostermueller.

Joan was educated in Quincy schools and was employed and retired from Johnson Press in Pontiac after twenty some years of employment. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Daughters of Isabella of the church and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.

Her funeral was held on Monday December 4, 2023 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Church, Pontiac with Fr. David Sabel officiating. A visitation was held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

In Quincy, a visitation will be held at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 11:00-Noon at the funeral home with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, IL. Memorials in Joan’s name may be made to St. Mary’s Church or Goldwater Care of Pontiac, IL.
