Jim Oenning
Jim Oenning, age 68, of Quincy passed away peacefully in his home Sunday morning, September 8, 2024. He was born on September 24, 1955 in Quincy the son Wilbur and Vera (Gerdes) Oenning.
Jim was a 1974 graduate of Mendon Unity High School. He married Barb (Wolf) on April 21, 1978. She survives.
He worked construction when he was younger and then worked for Comcast for 30 years before retiring due to illness. He would always have time to play with his grandchildren and daughters. During the summer he would often play kickball and other games with his daughters and the neighborhood kids. Jim enjoyed watching and coaching his children and grandchildren in an assortment of sports. He also enjoyed listening to his grandson play violin.
Jim loved the outdoors and spending time at his cabin. He spent a lot of time fishing and hunting with friends and his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Jill (fiancé, Steve Williams) and Sara (Ben) Nytes. Grandchildren: Dayja (Rich) Peat; Brayden Oenning; and Robbie, Olivia and Connor Nytes. Brother: Gene (Connie) Oenning. Sister: Carol Walton. Sister-in-law: Cassie Oenning. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins survive him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ron Oenning and Bobby Oenning, and brother-in-law: Larry Walton.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Friends and family are invited to a graveside service which will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Barb and family….Jim was and always will be one of the most considerate kind souls as a person and as a co-worker. I am so happy I got to work with him at Comcast. Love you guys!!!!!
