Jesse Perkins

Jesse Perkins, age 85, of the Sycamore Healthcare Center, formerly of 1101 Chestnut Street, Quincy, died on Sunday, January 13, 2008 in the Center. He was born on March 1, 1922 in Quincy, Illinois. He was a son of Katie Griffin. Jesse married Leona Perkins on May 22, 1941 in Edina, Missouri. She died on November 8, 2007.

Mr. Perkins attended Union Baptist Church. He worked for Huck Fixture Company for 16 years before his retirement. He later worked for Quincy Building Materials for over 20 years.

Jesse was a former member of the American Legion Post #37. He enjoyed his family, friends, sports, and keeping his house. He was a true man of wisdom and had a real understanding of people.

Survivors include:
DAUGHTERS: Zonia Clay & her husband Robert, of LaBelle, MO, Pat Dawson of Quincy, Gloria Perkins of Quincy, Sheila Shaw of Hammond, Indiana, Kim Perkins & Charmane Perkins of Kewanee, Illinois, & Debra Perkins of Quincy;
SISTERS: Alice Jones, Doshia Perkins, Eleanor Moore, & Dorothy Johnson all of Quincy
EIGHTEEN GRANDCHILDREN
Numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, & friends also survive.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Jerome Perkins, a son & daughter.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. W. A. Finney, Bishop E. Warren, & Rev. Cecil Fletcher. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. Visitation will be held Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the family.
