Jerry E. McNay

Jerry Edwin McNay, 71, peacefully passed on Sunday December 5, 2021, in his home in Quincy, IL. Jerry was born January 20, 1950, to James “Ed” Edgar and Helen (Ruffcorn) McNay in Quincy.
Jerry was previously married to Donna Wendling, with whom he had his son and daughter. In 2009, he married Anne (Emerick) McNay, she survives.

Jerry was instilled with his drive, entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic from a young age, starting with the family-owned paper route – usually running his entire route to get it finished quickly, and working with his dad and brothers at the stockyards cleaning pens and trailers.

After high school he and his twin brother, Jack, were drafted into the US Army for Vietnam. Jerry proudly served his active duty at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He then returned to Quincy and continued to work alongside his father with Midwest Order Buyers and McNay Trucking. In 1975, with his dad, he purchased the Adams Stone Quarry in Marblehead, and started his career in mineral processing. In 1992, along with his business partner, he created Quincy Carbonates, designing, and building the plant with no detail overlooked, to create and efficiently process high grade calcium carbonate. He sold Quincy Carbonates in 1998 and spent his time with various construction projects for friends and family. In 2018, he returned to his roots, driving for McNay Trucking.

He loved spending time with friends on the golf course, spending weekends with family in the pool, and loved and spoiled his dogs and cats. Jerry’s GREATEST pride and accomplishment was his family, he loved them passionately.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Anne, his son, Eric (Stacey) McNay, his daughter, Sarah (Rick) Reichert, his grandchildren Nathan, Claire and Leigha Reichert, and Ross McNay, brothers Jack (Kathy) McNay, Jim (Linda) McNay and Richard (Patti) McNay, a brother-in-law Loren Hieland, several wonderful nieces and nephews, his father and mother in-law, Wayne and Judy Emerick, “Uncle” Skin Schmitt and brother-in-law Steve (Allison) Emerick.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Helen, and two sisters, Carol Hieland and Linda McNay.

Funeral services will be on Monday, December 13, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Church of Saint Peter by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Quincy Humane Society, QND, St. Peter School or Blessing Foundation for Hospice. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com

When I see these postings of fellow classmates I shake my head and regret never getting to know people like Jerry. As I read his obituary I can tell he was a very determined man achieving much in his life. For his brother Jack I express my condolences to him and the remaining family members.

I will not be able to come for the services but rest assured my prayers will be there for family and all.
