Jerrod Blaise McKinstry

It is with profound sadness that the family of Jerrod Blaise McKinstry shares the news of his passing on December 13, 2021, at Blessing Hospital with his beloved mother, Elaine and father, John at his side.

He was born in Quincy on April 20, 1970, to loving parents John and Elaine (Vahlkamp) McKinstry and was younger brother of Mindy (McKinstry) Deming. He loved spending time with his family including his nieces Meghan (Chad) Dedert, Mallory Deming and especially enjoyed his great nieces and nephews Dominic, Jocelyn, Wyatt, Londyn and Presleigh. They all survive and will miss him eternally.

Jerrod was a Class of 88 graduate from Quincy High School and a union mason by trade. In his younger years, he spent many evenings and weekends at the KC playing softball with a team of friends that was unmatched. He had a passion for sports and he loved his Houston Oilers and Astros.

Jerrod is also survived by the loves of his life – his daughter, Emma McKinstry and son, Miller Robertson. If you wanted to see him gush with pride, you just had to mention their names. Though he struggled finding his way at times, his love and devotion to his children never wavered. He loved to brag about his Doozie’s soccer career, and Miller’s theatrical performances. To him, his children were his greatest accomplishment and he made sure they knew he loved them fiercely.

To his friends, J-Rod will be remembered as a feisty, outspoken, quick witted, and loyal friend who had a smile and laugh that are equally unforgettable. The family would ask that when you think of him you think of the best parts of him – his loyalty, his larger-than-life personality, his determination, the kid in him that played with every child he met, the depth of his love for his family and friends. He was surrounded by love until the very end of his journey here on earth and is now able to rest in the arms of his loving father. We are eternally grateful for the time we had with him.

He is survived by his parents, John and Elaine McKinstry; his children: Emma McKinstry and Miller Robertson; one sister, Mindy Deming; nieces: Meghan (Chad) Dedert and Mallory Deming; great nieces and nephews: Dominic, Jocelyn, Wyatt, Londyn, Presleigh and a special friend, Laurie Crabill.

Jerrod was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Ruth McKinstry and Raymond and Emma Vahlkamp, Sr., a brother-in-law, Roger Deming and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. with a memorial service starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Miller Robertson Education Fund or Blessing Hospice. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com.
