Jeffrey B. Werneth

Jeffrey B. Werneth, age 58, of 2717 Kings Pointe NW, died on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 6:15 p.m. in Sunset Home. Jeff was born July 15, 1955 in Quincy, a son of Ferdinand and Jeanette (Feld) Werneth.

He retired in June of 2012 after working 21 years as Director of Surveillance at The Isle Casino in Biloxi, MS.

Jeff was a 1973 graduate of Quincy Senior High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany and at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. While in Germany he had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout Europe.

Jeff was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Jeff loved his family, especially his children and the time they spent together. Since Jeff lived on the coast, each year he hosted an annual Werneth Beach Bash that his family & friends always looked forward to attending; this was his way of keeping his family & friends close to him. He was the master of hospitality. Jeff loved to fish, especially deep sea fishing and going to flea markets. He loved his pets, his room dog, Yoda and his beloved dogs, Fred & Flash.

Survivors include his children, Jamy Landwehr and her husband Chris of Quincy; Jeffrey “Jake” Werneth and Shelby Lee Werneth both of Ocean Springs, MS; Two grandchildren, Brittany and Brett Landwehr of Quincy; brothers and sisters, Kitty Bueter and her husband Tom of Quincy; Bette Steinkamp and her husband Ron of High Point, NC; Robert E. Werneth and his wife Patsy of Hernando, MS; John Werneth and his wife Ruthie; Teri Provine and her husband Joe; Laura Price and her husband Steve; Lisa Gertz and her companion Karnell “Will” Williams all of Quincy and Andrew Werneth of Slidell, LA. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents & grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Rev. Vernon Olmer with Deacon Ron Steinkamp assisting. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors to be conducted by American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Jeff Werneth Trust Fund.

    Jeff will be missed. It was a pleasure seeing the community of family and friends on FB surrounding him during the last year. A message to us all that family is all.

    The Werneth family was great friends of ours when I was much much younger and I knew Jeff well. May all of his family and others that he touched know that He is up there now, fishing in that big stream in the sky!

    I am Shannon’s aunt. My husband and I both always liked Jeff so much and could see that he was an amazing father. So sorry about this sad ending for him.
