Jean D. Vahlkamp

Jean D. Vahlkamp, age 74, of 2021 Vermont St., died on Thursday, September 22, 2016 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on June 21, 1942 in England, daughter of Edward and Daisy May (Beasley) Blackwell. She met Danny Vahlkamp while he was serving with the USAF in Germany. Upon his transfer to England, they were married on RAF Base Woodbridge on August 27, 1977. After Danny was discharged from the Air Force, they returned to his hometown of Quincy, IL. Jean was a secretary at St. Francis School prior to staying home as a full time mother to their three girls, adopted from Romania. When the girls were older, Jean became a volunteer at Blessing Hospital.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, Quentin (Nidia), James, Georgiana, Mariana and Cristina, all of Quincy and Becky (Kevin) Dusek of Chicago; five grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; a brother, John (Maxine) and a sister-in-law, Shirley of England as well as her Quincy in-laws, Margie (Jerry) Rose, Raymond (Teresa) Vahlkamp, Elaine (John) McKinstry, Paulette Vahlkamp and Kris (Les) Dennis of Liberty and Joan O’Neal of Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Europe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert, and her Quincy in-laws, Raymond and Emma Vahlkamp.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Camp Callahan or Quincy University Women’s Basketball.

    Cindy and I and my sister Ruth Tossick are very sorry to hear of your loss. I wish I could say something to soften the blow, but I doubt that’s possible.
