James Robert “Duke” Bias

James Robert “Duke” Bias, age 79, of 639 York, Apt. 507, formerly of Burlington, IA, died on Friday, May 22, 2015 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on April 25, 1936 in Quincy the son of James Edward and Mildred Elizabeth (Holly) Bias.

Duke worked in construction and then later for Rudifer Potato Packing and retired from Lamont Factory all in Burlington, IA. He was a member of First Union Methodist Church in Burlington, IA. He also was a member of the Masons. Duke was a member of the NAACP. IN high school he ran track and always had a great love of sports.

He is survived by:
TWO BROTHERS: Otis Bias and his special friend Heidi and Bruce Bias and his special friend Brenda
THREE SISTERS: Bonnie M. Orange, Laura E. Abbey and her husband Richard, and Darlene S. Bias.
NEPHEWS: Otis Bias, Jr.; Jamie Bias; Christian Bias and his wife Lindsey, Bruce Bias, Jr. and his wife Rachel; Tyfus Bias and his girlfriend Melissa, Wendell Bias, Sr. and his special friend Nicole; Richard Bias, Jr. and his wife Heather; Antwyon Bias and his wife Lynn.
NIECES: Jessica Bias, Laurvetta Bassett; Richelle Bias and her special friend William and Shameka Bias and her special friend Frank.
Numerous great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents, his special friend Margaret Kendren, one brother: Vernon “Skeet” Bias, one sister: Mary Bias; one nephew Lewis Bassett, and 1niece Latasha Bias.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2015 at 1:00 PM in Greenmount Cemetery. There is no visitation but friends are invited to the graveside services. Memorials may be made to the family. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    To the family of Bro Bias, please know that his friends from Burlington are keeping you in our prayers. He has gone to be with the Lord, but will not be forgotten. May God bring you peace and comfort as you say goodbye to your loved one.
