James R. Moore, Jr.

James R. Moore, Jr., age 85, of 621 Hamilton Ave, Quincy, IL, died on Friday, December 31, 2010 in the Sunset Home. He was born on November 18, 1925 in Dennison, IL the son of James R. & Ella (Nye) Moore. James was a graduate of Quincy High School. He married Mary M. Mollenhauer on February 10, 1947 in Paris, IL. She survives. Mr. Moore was a salesman for most of his career and worked for Allis-Chalmers in the Quincy area. He retired in 1992. Mr. Moore served in the United States Army during WWII and was involved in the European Theatre and the Normandy Campaign. James was a two-time purple heart recipient and was also awarded a bronze star. He was an active member and past commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. James was also a member of the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Elks.

James motto was “Think and act young.”

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by:
TWO SONS: Michael R. Moore and his wife Laurie of Imperial, MO and Gary L. Moore and his wife Jane of St. Charles, MO.
TWO GRANDCHILDREN: Joshua D. Moore and Travis J. Moore and his wife Amy Star.
TWO BROTHERS: Don Moore and his wife Charlotte and Bill Moore and his wife Mary.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Paul Moore.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 11:00 Am in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by the Rev. George Tomko. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park with military rites conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart or to Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE.
