James “Jim” Milo Winston age 86, of Quincy died on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at 8:10 a.m. in his home. Jim was born on July 5, 1930 in Quincy, a son of James A. and Iris G. (Riley) Winston. He married Jeanette L. Wismann on July 4, 1953 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. They had met while attending dances at the C.Y.O. and they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2013. Jeanette preceded him in death on August 21, 2013.
Jim was a mill worker at Celotex in Quincy for over 40 years prior to retiring in 1992.
He was a graduate of Quincy High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Jim was a skilled woods craftsman, he and his family made personalized wooden Christmas ornaments for many years. Jim made stained glass crafts as well. For many years, he and his wife were members of the Silver Dollar Square Dance Club.
Survivors include his children: Alan Winston and his wife Helen of Springfield, IL; Ruth Jansen and her husband Richard; James G. Winston and his wife Cindy; Kathy Coy and her husband Jeff; and Jeaneen Bradley, all of Quincy.
Thirteen grandchildren, Michelle (David) Davelaar; Teresa Dobson; Janelle (Brian) Higgins; Keith (Teresa) Jansen; Sarah Jansen; Nathan Jansen; Alyssa (Matt) Lester; Ashley (Shannon) Granger; Andrea (Kendall) Zajac; Stephen Coy; Lauren Coy; Megan (Chase) Main; and George Bradley,
Ten great-grandchildren, Ryan and Ainsley Davelaar; Jameson and Greyson Lester, Christine and Caroline Higgins; Jack Granger; Emery Zajac; Charlie and Lyla Main.
A brother, Ray (Ellen) Winston of Louisiana; and three sisters, Doloris (Albert) Huber of Quincy; Mary (Steve) Eckhardt of Virginia and Rita (David) Brown of Texas and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a sister, Janet Booher.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Rev. Donald Blaeser, O.F.M. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the U.S. Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veteran’s Home Activities Fund or to Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE.
