James “Jim” Koetters
James “Jim” Lawrence Koetters, age 66, of 923 East 1323rd Lane, Liberty, IL died on January 28, 2017 in his home. He was born on October 5, 1950 in Quincy, the son of Lawrence and Leona (Steinkamp) Koetters. He married Joan Genenbacher in St. Anthony Catholic Church on February 10, 1973. She preceded Jim in death on May 14, 2014.
Jim was a 1969 graduate of Payson-Seymour High School. He served in the US Army-Vietnam, 1969-1971.
Jim had worked at Gardner-Denver, before becoming a full-time farmer. He and Joan enjoyed camping at Siloam Springs State Park. Jim loved being around his grandkids. He always looked forward to going out to eat, and having morning coffee with his friends. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and liked reading Western novels.
He is survived by his children: Ted Koetters and his wife Robin of Payson and Chris Koetters and his significant other Susan of Louisiana, MO; two grandchildren: Jordan Koetters and Jackie Koetters both of Payson; a dear friend, Marcia Frericks of Quincy; sisters: Janet Shrum of Hannibal, MO and Connie (Melvin) Dietrich of Fowler, IL; and brothers: Robert Koetters of Payson (and his significant other, Becky Dawson) and Donald (Kathleen) Koetters of Quincy.
Numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law also survive.
In addition to his wife, Jim was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry in infancy and a sister-in-law, Cathy Koetters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
