James “Jim” Freiburg

James “Jim” Freiburg, age 71, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born on January 5, 1950 in Quincy. He was the son of Donald and Ann (Bosse) Freiburg.

Jim grew up attending St. Francis School and Parish and then raised his children at St. Dominic School and Parish where he developed several friendships and was involved in various clubs. He graduated from Quincy Senior High School, then served in the U.S. Army and he was a paratrooper in the Vietnam War.
Jim attended Quincy College and Morrison Tech and then obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in business from Western Illinois University. He retired in 1986 from Fisher Business Supplies, where he was a salesman. Jim was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis in 1985 and had lived with that disease for over 35 years.

Jim was a loving and compassionate man who always enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He had lived at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy for the last 16 years and developed great friendships with his roommates and caretakers.
He is survived by his two children: Michael Freiburg (Ashley) of Brentwood, TN and Jessica Freiburg (Michele) of Oak Park, IL.
Five grandchildren: Caroline Freiburg, Evelyn Freiburg, Harrison Freiburg, Lillian Freiburg and Nolan Freiburg; and two siblings: Rose Culbertson and Patrick Freiburg (Ann)
Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives also survive.

Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Jim’s funeral services are being held at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home for immediate family only.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post#37 and the Illinois National Guard Honors Detail. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund. www.dukerandhaugh.com

    Jim and I went through infantry training, Airborne Course, and Pathfinder Course together. We we’re assigned to the same unit in Vietnam and were roommates. He was an honorable man with a great sense of humor. I was fortunate to have him as a friend. My belated condolences to his family

    I’m so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He has been in my prayers. I’m so happy I got to go visit him when I was in Quincy with my friend, Fr Zachary Edgar. May eternal rest be granted Jim and perpetual light shine upon him. He certainly has earned it!

    So sorry for your families loss! Jim was an amazing man. Always had a smile on his face. Was always very nice to everyone.Thanks for the opportunity to care for Jim ! Always loved talking to him and hearing his stories. Enjoyed when grandma would visit to hear more stories also. It was a pleasure taking care of Jim.

    Jim was a kind and caring person. Always had a smile on his face. I enjoyed his company and meeting his mother- your grandmother. Thier Sunday outings to church then a bite for lunch. My prayers our with you.
