James Hutmacher
James “Jim” Julius Hutmacher, age 65, of Quincy, died on Monday, July 24, 2017 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on June 1, 1952 in Quincy, a son of Harold & Virginia (Fries) Hutmacher. Jim was a 1970 graduate of Christian Brothers High School, a 1974 graduate of Bradley University and a graduate of San Francisco State University with a Masters Degree in Communications.
After graduation from Bradley, He moved to Marin County, California where he began a colorful life in various positions as a teacher, football coach, and working in the arts fair. He was a bodyguard for a time for rocker: Jessie Collins and the Youngbloods. Then he entered the movie industry working on several movies and making friends with several actors and doing various commercials. While in California, he made many dear friends who he greatly missed when he moved back to Quincy.
When he moved back to Quincy, he renewed his friendship with his high school “brothers”. He was an accomplished artist known for his paintings and etchings. He also wrote a book about a very close friend and his time in the Korean War.
Jim worked as a bailiff at the Adams County Sheriff’s Department and then as a correctional officer and counselor at the Adams County Juvenile Correctional Facility.
Even in death, he is still giving life as a tissue and organ donor.
Jim is survived by his sister: Janet Hutmacher of Quincy. Numerous cousins and the treasured family of friends in Quincy and California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
His body will be cremated but his soul and spirit will be in heaven with his family and friends. There will be no formal services but a celebration of his life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quincy Humane Society or to Quincy Notre Dame High School. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Hut and I lived together in Peoria before moving to Novato, CA in 1976. We were together 9 years. I laughed when I read where he began a ‘colorful life’…to be sure we did! I guess he never married? He told me, when we split up, that he’d never love anyone as much as he loved me. He was a good man and I loved him dearly, but life is strange and ‘stuff’ happens. By the way…the name of the rock-n-roll star was Jesse Colin Young. His early band was the The Youngbloods. Bless you, Hut. I still love you.
I knew, “Hut” in the early ’90s. We both lived in, West Marin, Ca. He was a very interesting guy, and funny as hell. I’m glad I got to see him earlier this year, when he paid a visit. I miss him very much…. Michele Stone Inverness, Ca.

Cousin Jim was a big man with an even bigger heart.
I will miss him , but remember the great times growing up together and him taking the time to help his little cousin ( I will never forget that it was Jim that turned me on to Jethro Tull 😉

What a great guy, his talent,witt and attributes live on in those who’s lives he touched. His laugh was one that always got everyone laughing with him. the life of a party!
Every time i drive down Chestnut i think of you all and remember those wonderful memories made so long ago.

I am honored and blessed to have known Jim. We have so many great memories. He was truly a blessing in my life and I will miss him. My condolences.

Janet, I am so sorry for the loss of your brother. I will never forget Jim…his laugh, his dimples with his big smile and the sparkle in his eyes. I wish he could have seen Glacier Park. He will have a better view of it now.
