James E. “Jim” Riherd

James E. “Jim” Riherd, age 83, of the Illinois Veterans Home, died on Thursday, February 6, 2014 in the home. He was born on June 22, 1930 in Elmhurst, IL, a son of James C. & Frances (Mayer) Riherd. He married Edith Sherwood in 1968 in West Burlington, IA. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2002.

Mr. Riherd was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended college in Burlington.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Biloxi, MS. He was employed at Midwest Biscuit Company in Burlington in the shipping department for many years.

He enjoyed his grandsons, gardening, playing golf and he loved his Studebaker Hawk. He liked his time at the Illinois Veteran’s Home and enjoyed his friends and those who cared for him there.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Riherd of Quincy and Diana Riherd of Dekalb, IL; six grandchildren; and a sister, Sue (Dale) Webb of Burlington, IA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his wife, Edith, and his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother William Riherd.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home by Rev. John Adams. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside.
