James E. Duke
James E. Duke (a.k.a. Dukes), age 90, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, formerly of Chicago, IL, died on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. in the home. He was born on November 4, 1924 in Milan, TN, a son of James E. Dukes, Sr. and Vera (Carter) White. He married Margie M. Arnold on August 21, 1948 in Chicago. She survives.
Mr. Duke graduated from Washburne Jr. College in Chicago. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII taking part in eight invasions. He received several medals for his service.
He was a carpenter by trade completing fifty years of membership in the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. He retired in 1996.
He was of the Hindu faith.
In addition to his wife, Margie, he is survived by:
THREE DAUGHTERS, Cynthia Smith and her husband Jerome of Peoria, Jacquelyn L. Duke – Russell, of Peoria and Cheryl Dukes of Tacoma, WA;
ONE SON, Eric L. Duke of Chicago;
SIX GRANDCHILDREN AND EIGHT GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; and
TWO SISTERS, Louise Ferrell of Chicago and Betty Pickens of Detroit, MI
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce E. Dukes.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be scheduled at a later date in Milan, TN with interment in Cloverdale Cemetery. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

He was truly special to my family. He will definently be missed.
I will always have fond memories of Mr Duke, his presence was such a big part of my childhood. Sending out my prayers to the Duke family as you come together to mourn his passing and celebrate his life.
