James Benard “Jim” Brinkman, age 88, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Bradford Villa., Quincy, died on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at 6:32 p.m. in the home. He was born on January 15, 1928 in Quincy, a son of Lawrence & Marie (Goerlich) Brinkman. He married Elizabeth “Betty” Obert on June 7, 1949. She survives

Mr. Brinkman worked at Electric Wheel for twenty-five years, Titan Can AM for seven years and at Brinkman Plumbing into his early 80’s. He was a hard worker, often working two jobs.

He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society at St. Joseph’s Church.

He and Betty camped regularly for forty-five years, spending the last ten years at Whispering Oaks where they made many friends. He liked playing cards, mowing the lawn on his John Deere, and wood working. Jim made special toy boxes for all the grandkids, along with furniture, chairs and quilt racks that he would give to charity auctions. He also made a detailed replica of the family milk barn, at Maple Lane Farms, formerly located 24th & Koch’s Lane. Many a Sunday was spent with family driving his team of horses, hauling wood, working and playing together.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by four children, Shari Arment and her husband Ralph of Bartonville, TX, Karen Venvertloh and her husband Joe of Quincy, Keith Brinkman and his wife Sharon of Quincy and Jimmy Brinkman and his wife Karen of Fowler, IL; thirteen grandchildren, Travis (Teresa) Arment, Heather Arment, Holly (Jay) Kriegesmann, Justin (Katie) Venvertloh, Dana (Dave) Ludwig, Jason (Amber) Venvertloh, Kelly (Jason) Stark, John (Jamie) Runser, KJ Brinkman Jr., Megan (Michael) Leapley, Meredith (Jerad) Sanders, Shane Brinkman and Emma Brinkman; nine great-granchildren with one additional due in July; a brother, Leroy (Virginia) Brinkman and a sister Mildred (Leni) Venvertloh.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sandy Runser, a grandson Scott Arment, a brother Kenneth and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Church by Fr. John Doctor, O.F.M. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament School or to Down Country.
