James A. Mast

James A. Mast, age 88, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 513 South 43rd , rural Quincy and rural Barry, IL, died on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Sunset Home. He was born on July 14, 1929 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Clarence & Helen (Thiemann) Mast. He married Louise R. Derhake on September 11, 1948 in St. John Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on October 6, 1997.

James was a lifelong farmer in the Quincy and Barry area. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he was in the Holy Name Society and helped with the pancake and sausage breakfast. He volunteered at Quincy Notre Dame and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. James was an avid CUBS fan and loved playing cards with his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Curtis Creek, Community Care and Sunset Home for providing our father with the individualized loving care that showed him dignity and respect.

Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, James was also preceded in death by a son Terry Mast; a sister: Virginia Dittmer and a brother: Lloyd Mast.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or to Quincy Notre Dame. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    So sorry to hear of your loss. We were able to visit Jim on July 2 at Sunset Home. So glad we did. He was a wonderful man. We are so blessed to call him our friend.
