Jack G. Hurley
Jack G. Hurley, age 80, of Quincy, IL, died on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on April 17, 1937 in Quincy, IL the son of Cecil G. & Laura M. (Leach) Hurley. He married Betty L. Barnard on March 20, 1959 in Palmyra, MO. While the family is devastated to lose Jack, they are rejoicing that he is reunited with his “Always and Forever”, Betty on their 59th wedding anniversary. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1990. Jack worked two jobs in his life. He worked at the A & P grocery store and Moormans Manufacturing until his retirement in 1992.
Jack found joy in playing with his baseball cards. He would spend hours sorting cards into interesting combinations. Jack loved watching any sporting event on TV, but nothing compared to his love of CUBS baseball. He was so excited that the CUBS finally won the World Series in 2016.
He is survived by:
FOUR CHILDREN: Jackie Scarber of Fowler, IL; Rhonda (Kent) Webster of Quincy, Scott(Bobbi) Hurley of Fowler, IL; and Melissa (Troy) Buhrmester.
11 GRANDCHILDREN: Charles (Avary) Scarber; Travis (Shawna) Webster, Trevor (Amy) Webster; Tabitha Peters, Brandon Hurley, Deana Boernson, Braeden Hurley, Mason (Hurley) Hills, Clayton Buhrmester, Cole Buhrmester, and Chloe Buhrmester.
10 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Angel, Charlie, Taylor, Talan, Gavin, Ethan, Thalia, Taylin, Blaze, and Izabella.
ONE BROTHER: Donald (Linda) Hurley.
Jack enjoyed any chance to spend time with his family. He loved to hear about all the activities they were involved in such as sports, school and work. He always expressed how proud he was of them.
In addition to his wife Betty, Jack was also preceded in death by: his parents, a brother Jim Hurley and a son-in-law: Charles Scarber.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
