J. “Jack” Spoonmore
J. “Jack” Spoonmore, age 81, of 302 Lexington, Quincy, died on Friday, February 15, 2013 in his home. Jack was born May 10, 1931 in Pasadena, CA a son of Raymond G. and Regina C. (Schaub) Spoonmore. He first married Ruth Terstriep on April 10, 1951 and she preceded him in death July 6, 1965. He married Marjorie (Willer) Hollensteiner on February 4, 1966 in Quincy’s St. Francis Catholic Church, and she survives.
Jack was a 1950 Graduate of Quincy High School. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1951-1954 during the Korean War as a Field Radio Operator. Jack worked as a barber in Quincy for over forty years, later working at Lakeview Bar & Grill and at Doane’s Insurance Co. and an agent until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, and the Holy Name Society. Jack enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing Texas Hold’Em with his family. He was an avid Cub baseball fan, and his pastimes included woodworking and craft projects. He especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Marjorie survivors also include his children, Larry (Mardi) Ybarra of Sterling, IL; Dennis (Barb) Spoonmore of Hannibal, MO; John (Debi) Spoonmore of Libby, MT; Darlene (Terry) Obert; Boyd (Becky) Spoonmore; Guy (Rebecca) Spoonmore; Troy (Gina) Spoomore and Dawn (Andy) Patton all of Quincy; Craig Spoonmore of St. Louis, MO; a brother, George (Loretta) Spoonmore of Phoenix, AZ and Grandchildren:
Renee (Josh) Markert; Larry (Nikki) Ybarra; Nicole (Derek) Green; Joy (Jason) Gibson; Jason and Jeff Obert; Matthew (Lisa) Spoonmore; Erik (Tracy) Spoonmore; Dusty Jo Spoonmore; Afina (Jeremy) Dedrick; Quentin (Elizabeth) Spoonmore; Garrett Spoonmore; Edward and Benjamin Spoonmore; Allison, Bryan and Kelsey Spoonmore; Derek, Mitchell, Leah and Curt Middendorf; Ethan and Jeremy Patton; Ryan, Devon and Lucas Spoonmore; Emily, Allyson, Alec and Erin Ansusinha. Twenty Great-Grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a daughter Gloria Ybarra; two great-grandsons, Dalton Gibson and Carter Dedrick.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Duc Pham, O.F.M. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Parish Center Building Fund or to the Donor’s Choice.
