Ida May Humke Townsend

Ida May Humke Townsend, age 89, of Quincy, died on July 9, 2024 in the Sunset Home. She was born on March 16, 1935 in Quincy, IL, the only child of Lester Kappner and Esther Weisenburger Kappner. Ida was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School. She first married Roger E. Humke on November 20, 1955. He preceded her in death on October 20, 1989. Roger and Ida owned and operated Humke Photography. They had one daughter Kathern. Ida later married Elvin Townsend on February 29, 2008. He survives.

Ida was a member of the Union United Methodist Church and a volunteer at Blessing Hospital Tea Room. Ida was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Early Tin Dusters and Model T Ford Clubs. Along with her husband Elvin, Ida went on many tours and trips in antique cars.

In addition to her husband Elvin, she is also survived by:
Ida’s daughter: Kathern K. Humke of Normal, IL
Elvin’s children: Cheri Townsend of Quincy and Marshall Townsend of St. Louis, MO.

In addition to her first husband, Ida was also preceded in death by her father: Lester Thomas Kappner and her mother Esther Weisenburger Cramlett.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the services at 1:00 PM. Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Library or to Union United Methodist Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Kathy, I’m sorry to hear of Ida’s passing. We sure had some great times with your family at the farm, road-trips and camping. I know she’ll be truly missed.
