Hilda R. Nelson

Hilda R. Nelson, age 94, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1219 N. 11th St., Quincy, died on Monday, November 11, 2013 in the home. She was born on February 3, 1919 in Quincy, a daughter of Joseph & Anna (Thiemann) Stallmann. She married Elmer “Leroy” Nelson on September 6, 1941 in St. John’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2004.

Hilda was a former member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Currently she was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing and working puzzles. Her biggest enjoyment came from time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Bruce Nelson of Liberty, IL, Kenneth Nelson and T.J. Nelson, both of Quincy; a daughter Sally Kroner of Quincy; a brother James Stallmann of Chicago, IL; a sister Florence Freels of Quincy; five grandchildren Lori (Troy) Dawson of Quincy, Nicole Brenciaglia of San Jose, CA, Dan Kroner and his wife Anne of San Jose, CA, David Kroner of Quincy and Jade (Chris) Belcher of Effingham, IL; great grandchildren, Alexis (Kody) Bowman of Quincy, Sierra & Tristan Brenciaglia of San Jose, CA, Tegan, Addison & Alijah Dawson of Quincy, Aidan Kroner of San Jose, CA and Brueklyn & Brodie Belcher of Effingham, IL; and one great-great grandchild, Liam Bowman of Quincy.

In addition to her husband, Leroy, and her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter Janet Nelson, a sister Elvira Zehnle and a brother Bob Stallmann.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church by Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a parish prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or to Good Samaritan Home.
