Hershell “Dean” Lacy
Hershell “Dean” Lacy, age 90, of the Illinois Veterans Home, died on Thursday, September 10, 2020 in Blessing Hospital. Dean was born on July 2, 1930 in Linton, Indiana, the son of Floyd and Pearl (Good) Lacy. He married Mary Louise McCoy on September 1, 1956 in the Kinderhook United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2017.
Dean was first employed at the Missouri Gravel Company. After relocating to Quincy, Dean was first employed as a welder for Firestone and later for Titan Wheel. Dean also proudly owned and operated Lacy Small Engine Repair out of his home in Kinderhook.
Dean enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, attending family reunions, going to the Indianapolis 500 and most of all, repairing small engines. He served on the Kinderhook Cemetery Board as well as the Kinderhook United Methodist Church Board. He was the mayor of Kinderhook.
Dean proudly served his country as a Marine during the Korean War.
Survivors include his son, Roger Dale Lacy of Florida; one sister, Iris Thomas of Indiana; a cousin, Betty Allen of Tucson, AZ and a great niece, LeAnn Garkie of Quincy, and other surviving relatives in Illinois, Indiana and California.
In addition to his wife, Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Hubert Duane Lacy and a sister, Lois Jewel.
Cremation rites have been accorded to Dean. Services will be private.
It’s difficult when a family member passes. Please accept my sympathy. All those we meet and love are in the recesses of our mind. Which we will well remember while living on this earth. I remember the nice visits with Dean and Mary at the reunions.
Condolences to Roger and all of the family. We are thankful for Dean having served in the Marines. Dad enjoyed growing up with Dean and cousins and always enjoyed seeing Dean and Mary at the family reunions in Linton.
I remember many good times with uncle Dean in Kinderhook at the house of the hill.He will definitely be missed.God bless your Roger
