Herbert Surratt

Herbert Surratt, age 72, of 1010 South 6th, St., died on Saturday, August 23, 2008 in the Sunset Home. He was born on November 19, 1935 in Versailles, IL; the son of Raymond & Hazel (Lewis) Surratt. He married Lelah Phillips on December 2, 1968 in Quincy, IL. She survives.

Mr. Surratt was a machine operator for Electric Wheel and then Titan Wheel from 1963 until his retirement in 1999. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 until 1959.

In addition to his wife Lelah, he is survived by:
TWO STEP-DAUGHTERS: Debby Jones and her husband Stan of Macomb, IL; and Tammy Salts and her husband Charles of North Little Rock, AR;
ONE STEP-SON: Jimmy Rourke of Springfield, IL;
TWO STEP-GRANDDAUGHTERS: Cheyenne and Sierra Salts.
ONE SON: Steven Surratt
TWO DAUGHTERS: Charlotte Bier and her husband Mike and Delores Brizendine and her husband Mike
FOUR GRANDCHILDREN
FOUR BROTHERS: Raymond Surratt, Jr. and his wife Kim; Gaylord Surratt and his wife Rona, Larry Surratt and his wife Coreta and Ronald Surratt.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Cremation rites were accorded and no further services are planned at this time. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Steve and Charlotte, Sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Don’t know if you remember me, but we went to grade school together in Mt. Sterling. I also mowed you grandma Hazel’s yard for several years. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Chuck Ingram
