Henry J. Wand

Henry J. Wand, age 96, of 8008 White Oak Road, died on Monday, November 11, 2013 in St. Vincent Home. He was born on February 26, 1917 in Quincy, IL the son of Maurice & Clara (Hoebing) Wand. He married Alice Grawe on August 9, 1941 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2002. Mr. Wand was a lifelong farmer. He was also the owner and operator of Frontier TV and Gun Shop for many years and was a retired rural mail carrier.

Henry was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was active in the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Western Catholic Union and the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting and trapping, especially deer hunting. He also enjoyed card playing, chopping wood, singing and playing the guitar. He also loved his canine pal, “Watson”.

SEVEN CHILDREN: Jim Wand and his wife Judy of St. Louis, MO; Sister Mary Ruth Wand, S.S.N.D. of California, MO; Alvera Haxel and her husband Ted of Quincy; Marcia Maranski and her husband Bill of Iselin, NJ; Carlene Blickhan and her husband Steve of Quincy; Barbara Wand and her friend Tim Fiedler of St. Louis, MO and Larry Wand and his wife Mary of Lincolnwood, IL,
NINETEEN GRANDCHILDREN: Kimberly Osmanagic and her husband Emir; Jim Wand and his wife Leah; Michael Wand; Jennifer Huntley and her husband Darin; Joe Haxel and his wife Mary Beth; Sarah Hinkamper and her husband Ryan; Gregory Haxel and his wife Dana; Anna Haxel; Alice Haxel; Martin Maranski and his wife Cleo; John Michael Maranski; Louis Maranski; Paul Maranski and his fiancee Marie; Sean Blickhan and his wife Neely; Tracy Gartner and her husband Dave; Christina Caldwell and her husband Robby; Anthony Blickhan; Robert Wand and his wife Terri; Angela Wand.
SEVENTEEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN with one more expected in December.
FIVE SISTERS: Rita Dreier; Sr. Clare (Florence) Wand OSF; Pauline Uppinghouse, Helen Friedhoff and Ruth Wand.
Numerous nieces, nephews, & other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Henry was also preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother Emily Peter Wand; a grandchild Elizabeth Haxel, brothers: Simon Wand & Joe Wand and Sisters: Margaret Klauser, Theresa Halfpap, & Angela Wand in infancy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 9:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony Catholic Church by Father Tom Hagstrom and Fr. Kevin Gormley. Interment in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 with a rosary service at 7:00 by Father Arnaud Devillers, FSSP. Memorials may be made to masses said in his memory.
