Henry J. “Harry” Kathmann
Henry J. “Harry” Kathmann, age 93, of 1410 Spruce Street, Quincy, died on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 4:40 p.m. at Blessing Hospital. He was born on July 29, 1916 in Andover, South Dakota, a son of Anton & Elizabeth( Abraham )Kathmann. He married Alberta M. Schepers on December 26, 1942 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on July 14, 2003.
Harry attended Quincy College Academy. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II as a radio instructor. He was a U.S. mail carrier for 32 years, retiring in 1978.
Harry was a long time member of St. John the Baptist Parish where all of his children attended grade school.
He currently was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church..
He was a member of the American Legion Post #37, a life time member of the Knights of Columbus, & the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was an amateur photographer and he loved gardening & poetry.
Harry is survived by:
TWO SONS: Marty Kathmann and his wife Patricia of Villa Park, IL, & Timothy Kathmann and his wife Susan of Quincy;
FOUR DAUGHTERS: Claudia Woodruff and her husband Jack of Flossmoor, IL, Paula Quinlivan and her husband Robert of Glenview, IL, Melanie Kathmann of Oak Forest, IL, and Eloise Cooper of Crystal Lake, IL;
TWO SISTERS: Rita Cook & Bernice Walz both of Quincy;
GRANDCHILDREN: Mark Woodruff, Matt Woodruff and his wife Lisa and Michael Woodruff, Elizabeth & Robert Quinlivan, Christopher Kathmann, Phillip & Nathan Cooper, Stacey Garlick and her husband Nathan, Andrew Kathmann and his wife Stephanie, & Alyssa Kathmann;
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Maya & Charles Woodruff, Ashley & Alex Garlick, & Quinn Kathmann.
Many nieces & nephews also survive.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Keith Kathmann, a brother, Alphonse Kathmann, a sister, Ruth Kathmann and her twin brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by Rev. Don Blaeser, O.F.M.. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Knights of Columbus T.V.
