Helen Ruth Sparrow Halfpap Vollbracht

Helen Ruth Sparrow Halfpap Vollbracht died peacefully at the age of 98. Helen was of the Catholic faith and attended Blessed Sacrament (St. Mary). With her strong faith in God and Jesus Christ she went to be with her maker and those that preceded her. Her first love was husband John Roland Halfpap, who she married in 1950. He passed in 1964. She later married Richard Vollbracht in 1969, who passed in 2015.

Helen was a graduate of Quincy High School where she often spoke of being in the choral choir and how much she enjoyed being a part of that group. Helen started her working career at the Quincy Shoe Factory. Later she was the cook at the Adams County Jail and she retired as head cook from Brown Drug Company, which served meals at three stores in Quincy.

Helen enjoyed listening to and dancing to big band music. She had a passion for pretty flowers that she grew in and around her house. She was an excellent cook baking pies, bread, and a special treat of cinnamon rolls.

While her life was often filled with challenges and obstacles, she met them with a positive attitude and determination to overcome. Her warm and compassionate personality always showed through.

While she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, in her unselfish style and demeanor she would want us all to remember not the loss of her presence but rather the peace and joy that she now enjoys and has to graciously earned.

Helen is survived by her children: Deborah (Robert) Wittler, Kathleen Morgan and Rodney (Ellen) Halfpap. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Robert (Kim) Wittler, John Wittler, Tammy (Jeff) Fleenor, Kelly (Jessie) Sohn, Ron (Jamie) Morgan, Joshua Morgan, Brian (Ginger) Morgan, Brianna Morgan, Rachel (Erin Cox) Halfpap and Bill (Alex) Halfpap, as well as many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, Helen is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Helen Sparrow, her brothers: Elmer and Donald Sparrow, sisters: Margret Thompson, Phyllis Koch and Mary Ann Sparrow.
