Helen “Pat” Bangert

Helen “Pat” Bangert, age 84, of 1307 Koetters Lane, Quincy, died on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on December 10, 1928 in Quincy, the daughter of John D. & Dorothy (Damhorst) Sullivan, Sr. She married James Bangert on February 2, 1957 in St. John the Baptist Rectory. They recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Pat was a 1946 graduate of Quincy High School. She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church until its closing. She most currently was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Years ago, she worked for Quincy Bell Telephone. In 1973 she went to work at State Street Store in alterations. By 1979, she was operating her own business, Pat Bangert Alterations. She was a talented seamstress, known as “The Alterations Lady” and she was the “go to” lady for several local retailers and private customers and continued working up until a couple of years ago.

She volunteered at Good Samaritan Home and was a member of the “Gabbers” who met monthly for years. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals and attending Quincy Notre Dame sporting events. Pat cherished her role as homemaker and loved her family most of all.

In addition to her husband, Jim, she is survived by children, Bruce Bangert and his wife Sue of Springfield, IL and Barb Nisbet and her husband Curt of Quincy; grandchildren Sara (Petty Officer 3rd Class Aaron)Davis of Hampton, VA, Allison Nisbet of Springfield, IL and Natalie Nisbet of Quincy; great-granddaughter Charlotte Nicole Davis of Hampton, VA; a sister, Mary Alice (Randy) Akers; brothers, John (Angie) Sullivan, Jr., Richard “Dick” (Marjorie) Sullivan, Michael (Elaine) Sullivan and Timothy (Debbie) Sullivan; sister-in-law, JoAnn Sullivan; and three special friends, Ginny Greving, Dee Wiewel and Jackie Mahair. Many nieces & nephews also survive.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Raymond Smith, Dr. Kathryn Arrambide and staff at Blessing Cancer Center and to the nurses at Blessing Hospital for their dedicated care.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Thomas and Terrance Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame or the Blessing Cancer Center.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I am just now seeing this. I was out of town that week and missed all news. She was an awesome person and a wonderful seamstress! She was a wonderful help to me at Casual Corner all those years and to me personally for so many as well.

    RIP Pat! What a wonderful lady! She did some alterations for me and I enjoyed her and her work! She will be missed by many.
