Helen Mullen Malambri

Helen Mullen Malambri age 93, of Good Samaritan Home formerly of 2302 Cherry Ln. Quincy
died on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 10:40 a.m. in the home. Helen was born May 30, 1915 in Chicago, a daughter of Wenzel and Josephine (Karmasin) Kalitzky.

She married Frank Malambri in September 1978 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1990.

Mrs. Malambri was a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago. She also attended the University of Illinois, Quincy College and Chicago Teachers College.

She worked for 23 years in the Chicago Public School System before moving to Quincy and then she taught at Monroe School for 20 years teaching 5th and 6th grades.

Mrs. Malambri was a member of the former St. Boniface Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Teacher’s Credit Union and their Board of Directors for ten years. She was affiliated with the Quincy Women’s Teachers Club and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, local chapter. Helen was a honorary life member of the Illinois Parent Teachers Association and in 1961 and ’62 was secretary for the Adams County Teachers Association.

She spent time as a volunteer at both the American Red Cross and Blessing Hospital.

Survivors include: Her son, Lt. Col. Cassius J. Mullen and his wife Betty of Georgetown, TX;
two grandsons, Cassius J. Mullen, Jr. of Whitehouse, TX and Douglas B. Mullen of Austin, TX;
four great-grandchildren: Nathaniel and Lauren Mullen both of Austin, TX and Krista and Alicia Mullen of Whitehouse, TX.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Frank Kalitzky.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Prayer service at 4:00. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Home.
