Harry “Junior” Mellon
Harry “Junior” Mellon, age 93, of Sunset Home, formerly of 2006 Arrowood Ct, Quincy, died on Sunday, June 12, 2016 in the home. He was born on November 9, 1922 in Pike County, IL, a son of Harry E. & Zepha Marie (Wymer) Mellon. He married Leona Mae Brown on July 26, 1943 in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1976. He later married Marianna L. Coultas on June 3, 1977 in Barry, IL. She also preceded him in death on July 14, 2014.
Junior was a retired farmer. He also had worked at Electric Wheel and was a bus driver for the Liberty School District.
He enjoyed his family and was known to make ice cream for any special occasion or just because it made his family happy. He also liked coon hunting, playing horse shoes and cards.
He is survived by two daughters Leona June Hendricks and her husband Rudie of Camp Point, IL and Connie Faye Franklin and her husband Monroe “Boomer” of Quincy; two step-daughters, Dona Coultas of Quincy and Dianna Seals of Mendon, IL; a sister, Idella Mellon of Quincy; and a half-sister, Uvadella Martin of Mt. Sterling, IL. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his wives, Leona and Marianna, along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Mae and a brother, Glenn Mellon.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. John Furniss. Interment will be in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quincy St. Jude Run or Sunset Home.
