Harry E. Summers
Harry E. Summers age 87, of Quincy died on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 8:59 a.m. at the Illinois Veteran’s Home Quincy.
Harry was born in Augusta, IL on November 18, 1934, a son of Harry Given and Lily (McCune) Summers.
He married Theresa Griffin on February 23, 1956 and she preceded him in death on November 1, 1998.
Harry trained trotting horses and he was employed at the former St. Mary Hospital in the Maintenance Department prior to his retirement.
He loved his work with the trotters and farming.
Harry served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Harry was a character, and he had been a resident at the Illinois Veteran’s Home for many years.
He was well-known by his caregivers at the home who will miss him.
Survivors include his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, Vera Zigler of Charleston, IL and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 10 siblings, and his step-daughter Linda Viar.
Graveside services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran’s Home.
There is no visitation per his wishes, but family and friends are invited to the graveside services. Service arrangements are with Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
