Harold L. Parn
Harold L. Parn age 87, of Quincy, formerly of Monroe City, MO died on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 9:38 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. Harold was born June 9, 1930 in Pontiac, IL, the firstborn of eight children of Harold Henry and Anna Marie (Gerken) Parn. He married his wife of 64 years, Dorothy J. Mudd on July 4, 1953 in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Monroe City, MO.
Harold worked in Sales and Marketing in the agriculture industry for Moorman Manufacturing Co. and Acco Seed. He retired in 1980.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1949-1952.
Harold was currently a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he served as Deacon.
In 1979, he was Ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church, in the Diocese of Jefferson City, MO. He was active with the “Right to Life” and made many trips to Washington, D.C. with the youth of Holy Rosary Parish. Harold had served as an alderman for the City of Monroe, and at age 60, he received his EMT license and was an EMT for the Monroe City Ambulance District. In Quincy, he was an active member of the Korean War Veteran’s group.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, survivors include his five children, Allan Parn and his wife Susie; Randy Parn and his wife Holly all of Monroe City, MO: Brad Parn of Olathe, KS; Pam Eftink and her husband Ron of Quincy; Terry Parn and his wife Nancy of Ball Ground, GA. Brothers, Gary Parn and his wife Chris; Tony Parn and his wife Nena and Niles Parn; Sisters, Irma Yates and Janice Parn, all of Central Illinois. 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren with one due to arrive in January along with numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Carol Durfee and Juanita Anderson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Catholic Church by the Rev. Tom Donovan. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. with military honors in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Monroe City, MO. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St Anthony Parish of Quincy, IL.

Dorothy, So sorry for your loss. Harold was always right there to help or share an encouraging word. He always had a big smile to share too. He will be missed. May God give you comfort in the memories you and Harold created.
