Harold D. “Buzz” Shrader

Harold D. “Buzz” Shrader, age 81, of Quincy, formerly of the Camp Point-Coatsburg area, passed away at the Illinois Veterans Home, in Quincy, on Sunday, July 10, 2022. He was born on September 3, 1940, on the family farm northeast of Coatsburg, the son of Charles F. and Frances (Mason) Shrader. Harold was the youngest of six children.

He graduated from Central High School in Camp Point in 1958. On June 18, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn R. Baily, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Coatsburg.
Harold worked at CIPS/Ameren Illinois for 35 years. He began his career as a meter reader, then advanced to meter installer and repairman. He retired in 1999. In 2000, he went to work for Adams Electrical Cooperative for nine years.

Harold was with the 128th Unit of the Illinois National Guard from 1959-1965, serving active duty in 1961-1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church. He served as an election judge for several years. Harold was a member of the TCA Collectors, Quinsippi Stamp Club and helped his wife and gift buyers in the Blessing Tea Room.

Harold enjoyed working at the farm cutting firewood and tending to his chestnut trees. Most of all he liked the time spent with family having picnics. He loved to travel out West and was an avid postcard collector, having attended many shows.

Harold is survived by his wife, three daughters: Debbie McNeil of Quincy, Susan Starr of Lakeland, FL and Julie (Dennis) Klauser of Quincy; three grandchildren: Leslie (Ben) Bope of Tucson, AZ, Evan (Kayla) Klauser of Quincy and Dr. Brittney (Chris) Moore of Quincy; four great grandchildren: Rylie and Jaxon Klauser and Emerson and Amelia Moore all of Quincy. One niece, three nephews, three step great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Gerald Rabe, also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five sibling and their spouses: Dorothy (Dean) Snodgrass, Don (Marian) Shrader, Phillip (Viola) Shrader, Mary Rabe and Esther (Don) McMullen and one nephew.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Central Baptist Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery.
Military Honors will be presented by American Legion Post #37 Honor Guard and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to American Legion Post #37 Honor Guard or Central Baptist Church.
