Harley E. “Sonny’ Adams

Harley E. “Sonny’ Adams, age 94, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of Kewanee, IL died on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in the home. He was born in Kewanee, IL on Dec 21, 1921, the son of Harley and Lovina (Usadel) Adams, Sr. Harley married Dorothy Zivich on May 31, 1947 in Morrison, Il. She survives.

Harley graduated in 1939 from Kewanee High School. He served in WWII as a flight engineer on a c-47 in the United States Army Air Corp. After his service he worked for the US Postal service until retiring in 1976 after 34 years of service. After retirement he moved to California living there for 18 years and working as manager’s of a motel chain and also taking care of the elderly. Harley and Dorothy left California for Laughlin, NV., which is his favorite place because of the weather and the casino’s and later came back to Illinois.

He enjoyed reading his bible and working crossword puzzles. Harley was an avid Cubs fan.

Harley’s motto for living a long life was “Smoke my pipe, drink my beer and see my doctor once a year.”

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: A Son, Barry Adams of San Bernardino, CA and a Daughter, Paula Friguglietti and her husband Domenic of Bloomington, IL
TWO SISITERS: Vada Doubler of Kewanee, IL and Marilyn Dickau of Douglas, WY
FOUR GRANDCHILDREN: Katrina McKown, Kelry Smith, Kassandra McKown and Kyle McKown. NINE GREAT GRANDCHILDREN and Three GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN,
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Harley was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Inez Peart, Doris Adams, Shirley Debord and a brother Dale Adams.
