Gwendolen”Gwen” Kay Barnes age 38, of 1717 East 1324th St. Fowler, IL died on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at 8:48 a.m. in her home. Gwen was born April 2, 1976 in Belleville, IL a daughter of Don and Linda (Brink) Sheurman. She married John H. Barnes on July 4, 1998 in Canton, MO and he survives.

She formerly had worked at Blessing Hospital and she was a homemaker. Gwen was a 1994 graduate of Liberty High School. She had attended St. Brigid Catholic Church. Gwen liked to go fishing and mushroom hunting and she enjoyed painting.

In addition to her husband John, survivors also include her parents, Don and Linda Sheurman of Liberty; her grandfather, Dale Emery of Mendon, IL; a step-son, Dustin Barnes of Indianola, IA; children, Dakota, Kelcy and BettyJo Barnes all of Fowler, IL; a granddaughter, Echo Barnes; siblings, Corey Sheurman and his wife Gina of Griggsville, IL; Aaron Avooske of Collinsville, IL; Stephanie Gulley of Flintville, TN; and Kyle Avooske of Wood River, IL. Many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, a sister-in-law Jo Ellen Barnes.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Duker &Haugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Keela Neumann. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to the Barne’s Children’s Education Fund.
