Guy C. Williams
Guy C. Williams age 56, of Fowler, IL died on Saturday morning, September 26, 2020 at 2:08 a.m. in his home. Guy was born on October 26, 1963 in Quincy a son of Eddie L. and Dorothy L. (Myers) Williams.
He was a 1981 graduate of Quincy High School. He attended and graduated from John Wood Community College and went on to complete his education at Quincy College, graduating in 1985.
Professionally, Guy was most recently employed as a comptroller for BFI. Previously, he was a Q.U Volleyball coach and had worked at the HyVee on Broadway. He was a volleyball referee at the Kroc Center the YMCA, and he traveled to ref as needed. Guy played volleyball on summer and winter leagues; volleyball was always a big part of his life.
He had traveled to Germany, Australia, England, New Orleans, the Grand Canyon and Portland, OR among other places. Guy’s Dad had encouraged him to take some of his time-off every year and see the world, and that he did.
Survivors include his Mom, Dorothy; two sisters, Penny Jo Williams-Ivey and her husband Clyde Morgan Ivey Jr. and Eva M. Williams. Two brothers Alex and Lee Williams; a niece, Rebecca Ivey; two great-nieces, twins Blair and Brylee; two great- nephews Leo and Logan Williams. A grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
Guy was preceded in death by his dad, his maternal grandpa and paternal grandparents.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family.
I only found out about Guy’s death today, January 31, 2021. He stopped replying to some emails. I am deeply upset. We were very good friends for over a decade and I was his eyes and ears for his collection in Germany and later also in France. Guy was the most peaceful and gentle person I have known in my life. I am so sorry for him. The best go first. We keep him in our hearts.

I met Guy through the penny Bank Club. I had the great respect for him and his knowledge about banks. He was a really nice man and he will be greatly missed.

For many years Guy was one of our ‘Bank’ friends. He will be greatly missed by the SBCCA members. He served as editor of our magazine and president.
So sorry to hear that Guy is no longer with us. I’m sure he will find several wonderful, never before seen, military banks in heaven! My late husband John and I had great affection for Guy. I especially remember us hanging out with him in Germany at the European “money box” meetings; we helped him bring some of his cast iron finds back in our carry-on luggage and got quite the attention of the German equivalents of the TSA!
He will always remain a great young man in my mind.
We got to know Guy through the bank club including during a trip
to Austria for the European club convention. We always enjoyed seeing and talking with Guy. He served the bank club and members in many ways & was always available to jump in and help. We have lost a friend and a gentleman. Our condolences to the family.
Nancy and I always looked forward to seeing Guy at the SBCCA Conventions, he was just a super nice person! he was a great friend with the most infectious smile. We always enjoyed sitting and talking about collecting and banks. Our condolences to the Williams Family.
Guy was a very good friend from Quincy College. I was out with Guy when I met my wife. Such a sad loss.
We got to know Guy many years ago at the bank conventions and became very good friends. He always had a smile and was a pleasure to fellowship with when we got together. Guy was a good friend. I met guy back in the 80s. he would come into my brothers antique mall in uptown Quincy where I worked. Guy would visit with us everyday. We eventually got a booth together at the mall, booth#55. Guy had also worked at the mall. We always had a good time and always had plans to do something. My thoughts and prayers are with Dorothy and the family. Guy will be truly missed.

I met Guy at s bank convention several years ago. He was very welcoming to this newcomer. I always looked forward to seeing him and picking his brain about banks. I am also a former bcbs employee, so we had that in common too. He would always bring me up to speed on the latest. I got to see his wonderful collection a couple of years ago when he hosted a meeting for the gateway club. I bought several banks from him and will treasure them. RIP Guy. I will miss him
Guy will be so very missed. He was an amazingly empathetic man. He was not only a volleyball coach who cared about winning, he cared that you had fun and that you felt cared for. He listened. He made you feel like you could achieve anything. He made you feel like you were a volleyball star. His kind heart will live on in all those he mentored. Rest well friend.
So many of us are so lucky to have met Guy through our shared membership in the bank collecting community. If you needed help or advice, he would be there without hesitation. His enthusiasm was infectious and I know of no one in our 400+ member organization that would have an unkind word to say about him. He will be missed. Our condolences to the Williams family.
I was very sorry to hear of Guy’s passing. A true friend, a very knowledgeable and helpful bank collector, and just a great person. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Williams family.
Guy was a true gentleman, with a kind word and helping hand to all he knew. Our shared interests in collecting was a great conversation each time we met. Guy was always willing to share his knowledge of banks to support other collectors. He will be greatly missed.
Guy was the first person my wife and I met at our first convention. He was so welcoming and encouraging of my 175 bank collection, When asked he told me he had maybe 2000 banks. There must be so many with warm feelings and memories.

As a fellow bank collector Guy befriended me when I attended my first convention many years ago. I enjoyed our time talking about banks. My first bank purchase at that first convention was from Guy. It will always be a special part of my collection. I appreciated Guy’s friendship dearly and our common passion for bank collecting.
